Project details
The project is split into two phases: the 491 MW Big Rooter West, targeting commercial operation in August 2028, and the 658 MW Big Rooter East, targeting August 2029. SOLV Energy is serving as EPC contractor, with First Solar panels and Nextpower trackers. The site will also include 1.6 GWh of battery storage and up to 790 MW of planned data center capacity.
Interconnection
Big Rooter Power will tie into the grid near the existing 310 MW Twin Oaks coal-fired plant, which Panamint says has no retirement plans tied to the new solar buildout. More than 20 miles of new 345 kV transmission line are planned to support the interconnection.
Jobs and timeline
The developer expects the project to support more than 800 construction jobs across both phases.
